Caring Corner – August 2021

In the game of golf, a low score is desirable—but our “score” with this fundraiser this year was our best yet!

After last year’s more limited tournament, Swing for Seniors came roaring back this year, better than ever!  We raised a record $85,000, thanks to our wonderful sponsors, and especially to tournament chair Kelly Bonanno.  We truly couldn’t do this without you, Kelly!  Since this event began 11 years ago, it’s raised a total of $759,000 to benefit FBH and its residents, staff, and programs.  We are deeply grateful for all the hard work and support of the FBH Swing for Seniors committee, boards, volunteers, and staff!

Who’d have guessed, when it opened just a few years ago, they’d hit this amazing milestone so soon?

The Tool Thrift Shop, which raises funds for our Senior Options for Independence program, has now raised over a million dollars since its opening in 2010. A Foundation grant a few years ago made a move/expansion possible, and it’s been “off to the races” ever since! Even the pandemic couldn’t slow them down:  After closing temporarily for a few months, the shop reopened and is now busier than ever.  If you haven’t stopped by the shop in Fairport Village Landing yet, don’t wait—you’re sure to find some amazing bargains while supporting a great cause!

This month’s spotlight shines on the Fairport Music Festival.  The Fairport Music Festival has been one of FBH’s most generous supporters for the past 14 years by supporting the Swing for Seniors golf tournament, capital campaigns and Step Up for Seniors fundraising walk. Andy McDermott has served on the board of Fairport Baptist Homes for the past 9 years. We are very thankful for their continued dedication to the mission of Fairport Baptist Homes. The festival is being held on August 27-28 this year. To find out more, visit their website at

Staff and residents alike enjoyed a tasty treat recently…

Thanks to a Foundation grant—made possible by generous donors like YOU!—the folks at FBH enjoyed some delicious, tasty, and healthy treats when a local smoothie food truck stopped by one fine, sunny afternoon.  Isn’t it nice to be able to enjoy such simple summer pleasures again?
