Fairport Apartments
Commitment to seniors with low income has been a major and constant component of Fairport Baptist Homes’ mission. Fairport Apartments, a HUD 236 program for low-to-moderate income seniors, were opened in 1972 by Perinton Churches Housing, Inc., a coalition comprised of FBH and eleven Perinton churches (now thirteen), the parent corporation. Fairport Apartments provide quality, affordable senior housing. FBH donated 4.5 acres to the project, which gave the coalition sufficient equity to proceed. In the agreements that established the new corporations, the land and the buildings revert to the Fairport Baptist Homes in 2010, the end of the mortgage period.
The apartments feature studio and one-bedroom residences with on-site management by Fairport Baptist Homes, laundry, central air conditioning, community room, and lush gardens and grounds. Fairport Apartments have served the community well for the past thirty-five years, but now need serious upgrading and renovation in order to meet the needs of today’s elders. A task force of board members from Perinton Churches Housing, Inc. and FBH Caring Ministries has been working for several years to frame the Apartments’ future. They are committed to continuing to serve low income seniors with appropriately designed, affordable housing.
Rents are based on income; rental information may be obtained by calling (585) 377-6560.
2012 Renovations
The Fairport Apartments located on the campus of Fairport Baptist Homes are undergoing a much needed renovation, including updating all of the apartments to come into ADA compliance, adding a lift (not full elevator), call systems, new windows, and pitched roofs. The exteriors are getting a face lift with vinyl siding. . The developer is Rochester’s Cornerstone Group, Le Cesse is the construction company. Some tenants have already been moved back in to their newly-renovated one-bedroom apartments. The renovation, begun in October 2011, is expected to be completed by Fall 2012. Fairport Apartments are designed to serve a population which has 50% of the area’s median income or less, approximately $27,000 annually for a couple and $23,000 for an individual renter.
