Senior Living Council, Inc.
In 1984, a group of concerned individuals formed the Fairport Quality of Life Committee. In 1988, Perinton Churches Housing, Inc. joined the Village of Fairport and Town of Perinton to incorporate the not-for-profit organization, the Fairport/Perinton Senior Living Council, Inc., (SLC) to expand the ability of PCH to provide housing for the Seniors of Perinton and to develop services to help them live safe, independent lives in their own homes or apartments as long as possible.
The Senior Living Council (SLC) owns two low-to-moderate income housing facilities in the village of Fairport: Roselawn, a shared living residence for seniors and Rose Hollow, 12 independent-living apartments for seniors.
In partnership with the Fairport Baptist Homes Caring Ministries (FBH), the SLC sponsors a program called Senior Options for Independence (SOFI), a program providing care management services to Perinton seniors as well as a transportation service for seniors. SOFI’s experienced community-based care coordinators offer information on appropriate options to enable older persons to continue living safely and independently at home. They provide home visits and individualized guidance, linkage to services and continued follow-up. There is no charge for SOFI services though donations are accepted. To inquire about SOFI service, call (585) 388-2302.
SOFI also provides door-to-door and wheelchair-accessible transportation service within the Town of Perinton for medical appointments, essential errands and social outings for Perinton residents 60 and older. Transportation (not wheelchair accessible) outside of Perinton to medical appointments is also available. A suggested donation based on the trip is requested. Phone: 585-388-2370 as far in advance as possible, between 8:30 AM and 4 PM, Monday through Friday.
The Senior Living Council also operates an all-volunteer not-for-profit store, Craft Bits & Pieces, in Fairport as a fund raiser to help support the SOFI and transportation services. The store accepts donations of craft materials, sorts, packs, and resells them at prices far below retail.
Donations of craft materials are accepted at the store, 138 Fairport Village Landing, Fairport, NY 14450.
