FAIRPORT BAPTIST HOMES FOUNDATION E-NEWSLETTER
Jeanne Read Retires
Beloved SOFI staff member Jeanne Read recently retired, after working at FBH for over 30 years. What are Jeanne’s plans for the future?
Jeanne says she hopes to have more time to spend with family and friends, and of course, she’ll no doubt be seen at the family business, Read’s Ice Cream in Henrietta,
whenever it’s “ice cream weather!” We’ll miss her terribly, but can’t think of anyone more deserving of a bit of rest and relaxation after so many years of service to others…
What’s cooking in our Activities Department?
Among the many things our Recreation Therapists do with our residents, one of the all-time favorites is cooking. What’s their favorite recipe? Maybe you’ll want to try this at home!
This recipe is deceptively simple—but decidedly delicious!
EASY FRUIT COBBLER
1 can pie filling (apple, blueberry, cherry…any flavor)
1 box of Jiffy yellow cake mix (small box—9 ounces)
½ – 1 stick of butter
Pour pie filling into 8×8 pan or 9×9 pan.
Sprinkle yellow cake mix evenly over pie filling.
Melt ½ – 1 stick butter (depending on your preference) and drizzle over the top.
Bake at 350 for 50 mins or until golden brown.
Year-End Tax Saving Tips
Soon it will be time to file taxes for 2017—here’s how you can save a bit, and support some of your favorite charitable causes as well!
Two easy strategies for saving on your income taxes for this year:
- Donating appreciated stock allows the donor to get the full tax deduction without having to pay capital gains. In a way, it is a double tax savings!
- The law was made permanent last year that allows contributions directly from an IRA to an approved charity for those over 70 ½ years of age. It can then offset some of the tax on the distribution for that tax year.
